Suomessa eniten tyypin 1 diabetesta

Suomalaisten taipumukseen sairastua tyypin 1 diabetekseen odotetaan pian lisää selitystä. Suomessa diagnosoidaan lasten diabetestapauksia suhteellisesti eniten maailmassa.

Taustalla ovat geneettinen alttius ja ympäristötekijät, kuten virusinfektiot ja ravinto.


Tyypin 1 diabetes on yleisin Suomessa. Perintötekijöiden lisäksi ainakin lasten sairastuvuuteen maito ja muu ravinto näyttäisivät olevan todennäköisempiä tekijöitä kuin D-vitamiini. Sairauden varhainen tunnistaminen on tärkeää.
”Jos jotain pitää eritellä, niin lehmänmaidon insuliini- ja valkuaisainepitoisuus näyttäisivät olevan mahdollisia syitä. Varsinkin insuliinista alkaa olla jo näyttöä”, sanoo TYKS:n lastenendokrinologian erikoislääkäri Kirsti Näntö-Salonen.
Vuonna 2011 diagnosoitiin 57,6 uutta, alle 15-vuotiasta tyypin 1 diabeetikkoa 100 000:tta lasta kohden. Tämä on kärkitulos 88 maan vertailussa.

Naapurimaa Ruotsi on listalla kakkosena, siellä vastaava luku on 43,1 tapausta.
Syitä haetaan myös ravinnon nitraattipitoisuudesta ja suoliston bakteerifloorasta. Todennäköisesti ympäristötekijä, esimerkiksi enterovirus, laukaisee geneettisen alttiuden. Näntö-Salonen uskoo, että maidon ja insuliinin merkitys tulee vahvistumaan.
”Menossa on useita tutkimuksia, ja lähivuosina saadaan varmasti lisää näyttöä.”
Professori Mikael Knipin vetämä TRIGR-tutkimusryhmä selvittää esimerkiksi vähentääkö proteiinien poistaminen äidinmaitoa korvaavasta lehmänmaidosta perinnöllisesti alttiiden lasten sairastumista. FINDIA-tutkimuksessa havaittiin viime vuonna, että insuliinin poistaminen äidinmaitokorvikkeesta vähensi diabeteksen kehittymistä ennustavien autovasta-aineiden määrää.


American Journal of Epidemiologyssa julkaistussa tuoreessa tutkimuksessa havaittiin, että veren suuri D-vitamiinipitoisuus (yli 100 nmol/l) pienensi sairastumisriskiä ja vastaavasti alhainen pitoisuus (alle 75 nmol/l)  lisäsi riskiä sairastua tyypin 1 diabetekseen. Havainto perustui aktiivisotilaiden verinäytteisiin ja koski vain valkoihoista väestöä.
Yhteyttä on etsitty Suomessakin. Maija Miettinen tutki äidin raskaudenajan vitamiinitason vaikutusta lasten alttiuteen sairastua tyypin 1 diabetekseen, mutta tässä Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitoksen tutkimuksessa yhteyttä ei löytynyt.
Ongelma oli se, että 70 prosentilla odottavista äideistä D-vitamiinitaso oli suosituksia matalampi. Suomessa pitoisuutta 40-80 nmol/l pidetään riittävänä. Korkean vitamiinitason vertailuryhmän muodostamiseksi koehenkilöille pitäisi tarjota D-vitamiinilisää.
”Samoihin aikoihin ilmestyi norjalaistutkimus, jossa D-vitamiinilla nähtiin olevan jonkinlaista vaikutusta. Meillä on kyllä käsitys, että jos sellainen vaikutus todettaisiin, se ei olisi kovin suuri”, sanoo erikoistutkija Leena Kinnunen THL:stä.

Norjalaisessa tapaus-verrokkitutkimuksessa havaittiin, että äidin raskaudenaikainen kalanmaksaöljyn käyttö pienensi lapsen diabetesriskiä.
THL:n tutkimuksen osallistui 343 odottavaa äitiä, joiden lapsi myöhemmin sairastui tyypin 1 diabetekseen ja yhtä monta äitiä, joiden lapsi ei sairastunut. Tutkimusryhmä selvittää vielä, suurentaako äidin raskauden aikainen D-vitamiinin puutos perinnöllisesti alttiiden lasten sairastumisriskiä.
Euroopassa tehdyn tapaus-verrokkitutkimuksen mukaan varhaislapsuudessa saatu D-vitamiinilisä saattaa suojata tyypin 1 diabetekselta. Pohjois-Suomen Äiti–lapsi-seurantatutkimuksessa havaittiin, että matala D-vitamiinin saanti ja riisitautiepäily ensimmäisen elinvuoden aikana olivat yhteydessä myöhempään sairastumisriskiin.

Viime vuonna Knippin ja Olli Simellin katsaus listasi sairauden laukaisijoiksi virukset, vääränlaisen bakteerikannan suolistossa, lyhyen imetyksen ja varhaisen siirtymisen viljatuotteisiin ja lehmänmaitoon sekä nopean lihomisen. 

Katsaus esittää D-vitamiinin yhteydestä myös kritiikkiä: korkean diabetesesiintyvyyden Pohjoismaissa lapset nauttivat suositusten mukaisesti D-vitamiinilisiä, toisin kuin Venäjän Karjalassa, jossa lasten tyyppi 1:tä esiintyy vuosittain vain alle viidesosa Suomen määristä.
Selitystä auringonvalon D-vitamiinivaikutuksesta horjuttaa myös se, että kolmantena Diabetes UK:n lasten diabeteksen yleisyyslistalla paistattelee Saudi-Arabia, jossa auringonvalosta ei ole pulaa.
D-vitamiini saattaa kuitenkin ehkäistä aikuisten sairastumista. Sen vaikutusta esimerkiksi tyypin 2 diabeteksen ehkäisyssä selvitetään Itä-Suomen yliopiston FIND-tutkimuksessa.

Lasten sairastuminen yleistyi Suomessa pitkään: vuonna 1980 löytyi 31 uutta tapausta, vuonna 2005 64,2, mikä on enemmän kuin toissa vuonna.
Koko 88 maan vertailu löytyy tästä linkistä. Vertailun on koonnut hyväntekeväisyysjärjestö Diabetes UK, ja se perustuu IDF:n Diabetes Atlakseen.

Coconuts and coconut milk have traditionally gotten a bad rap due to its high saturated fat levels. Immune System Health
Coconut milk contains lauric acid, antimicrobial lipids and capric acid, which have antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. The body converts lauric acid into monolaurin, which may fight the viruses and bacteria that cause herpes, influenza and even HIV. According to a study led by Dr. Gilda Sapphire Erguiza, a pediatric pulmonologist at the Philippine Children's Medical Center in Quezon City, children with pneumonia who were treated with antibiotics and coconut oil benefited more than those taking the antibiotic alone.

Healthy Skin and Hair

Coconut milk is highly nutritious when ingested, and these nutrients may help fortify and condition skin and hair as well. The fatty acids in coconut milk are a natural antiseptic and may help treat dandruff, skin infections, wounds and dry, itchy skin. Furthermore, the high fatty acid content in coconut milk serves as a natural moisturizer for healthy skin and may help repair wrinkles and sagging in aging skin.

Sipping on coconut milk might please your taste buds -- it’s naturally sweet and packed with all kinds of nutrients -- but your waistline probably won’t love it. This creamy beverage is full of calories and fat, so add it sparingly to mixed drinks, smoothies, bowls of oatmeal or recipes. You can still get the coconut flavor you crave without going overboard on fat and calories.

Amount of Fiber

Coconut milk is one of the few liquids that contain a high amount of fiber. This occurs because coconut milk is made by grating the meat of the coconut and mixing it with the water inside. That grated coconut meat leaves fiber behind, something you won’t get a lot of from coconut water alone. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010 points out that you should get 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories in your diet. Each cup of coconut milk contains over 5 grams of fiber, which is 18 percent of the 28 grams of fiber you need for a 2,000-calorie diet. 

Counting calories 
Due to coconut milk’s concentrated fat content, you’ll get a lot of calories. One 8-ounce glass has over 550 calories. Nearly 515 of those calories, or 93 percent, are from the more than 57 grams of fat. You will get small amounts of protein and carbohydrates from coconut milk, too, although their content is minimal.
The Upside of Saturated Fat 
Few plant foods have saturated fat, the kind that is linked with heart disease. Coconuts are one of them. Less than 10 percent of your calories should come from saturated fat, which is a maximum of 22 grams for a 2,000-calorie daily diet, notes the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2010. An 8-ounce portion of coconut milk has more than 50 grams, over double your daily allowance for 2,000 calories. The kind of saturated fat in coconut milk isn’t all bad, though. Some of it is lauric acid. This substance may increase your high-density lipoprotein, says Harvard Medical School. Having a high HDL level can lessen your chances of developing heart disease. So consuming some coconut milk can be beneficial, although you should keep your serving size small since it is still high in fat and calories.

Micronutrient Content

Coconut milk is rich in numerous minerals, giving you at least 10 percent of your daily recommendation of several types. You’ll get lots of iron to help with oxygen transportation to cells, in addition to hearty amounts of bone-building minerals -- magnesium, phosphorus and manganese. Coconut milk benefits your overall health by giving you selenium and zinc to improve immune functions. You won’t get high levels of vitamins from coconut milk. It does contain small amounts of B vitamins to support your metabolism and give you energy, in addition to vitamin K for blood-clotting processes. Coconut milk offers some vitamin C and vitamin E, nutrients that safeguard cells and get rid of free radicals.

The candida diet is a low-carb diet that limits the consumption of carbohydrates and sugar to deprive candida, a yeast, from its main food source.
Grains, legumes, fruits and dairy products are eliminated, especially in the first phases of the candida diet.
The inclusion of fermented foods, such as kefir, yogurt and sauerkraut, and coconut oil is encouraged to help people infected with candida get rid of it naturally.


Symptoms

If you prefer not to use coconut oil, you can replacee it with coconut milk. Even if you include some amount of coconut oil, you can still supplement your diet with coconut milk to get more lauric acid and benefit from its anti-microbial properties. Coconut milk can be used in many ways. For example, you can prepare a smoothie with coconut milk instead of regular milk, you can add it to a soup or you can prepare a coconut sauce to accompany chicken.

Help Stop Forced Vaccinations and California Bill SB277

When the Disneyland California measles outbreak occurred, the media reported this to the public as if the US were on the verge of the next bubonic plague. But, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there were a total of 169 measles cases in 20 different states during the widely sensationalized outbreak.



That’s about 1 case for every 2 million people.
Not one person died, and there were no reports of serious complications from the illness.
In fact, the U.S. hasn’t seen a death from the measles in over 12 years, since 2003.
However, the real epidemic sweeping across America right now is the recent slate of legislative bills designed to remove philosophical and religious exemptions to vaccinations with approximately 110 bills introduced in 36 states so far.
If these bills were to become laws, they would literally force parents to vaccinate their children with products containing known carcinogens and other toxins, denying them their rights to parental choice regarding medical procedures with known risks.
A False Crisis
In an apparent response to a false crisis, California Senators Richard Pan and Ben Allen have introduced Senate Bill 277 (SB 277), legislation that requires all children to obtain every vaccine on the CDC schedule as a precondition for attending school in California. This is a suspect approach to a perceived “problem,” as the state of California currently has immunization rates at or above the national average.
In fact, over the past year, the number of personal belief exemptions has decreased due to another bill Senator Pan authored in 2012, AB2109. This bill made it more difficult to get a personal belief exemption by requiring parents to meet with a medical doctor if they chose to opt out of vaccines prior to enrolling their children in school.
California currently claims a 96.1% vaccination rate for the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella vaccine, (MMR) which exceeds the rate the CDC claims is necessary to protect the population. Despite decreasing exemptions and higher vaccination rates, Senator Pan continues to blame unvaccinated school children for recurring episodes, even after the CDC reported the recent outbreak was most likely “imported” from someone visiting California from another country.
Vaccinations and Injury
Plenty of parents who see their parental rights threatened by this bill are upset. Their argument is that the vaccines are not proven to be as safe and effective as the CDC claims, and they’ve got some weight behind that argument.
The Institute of Medicine states that “No vaccine is perfectly safe or effective, and vaccines may lead to serious adverse effects in some instances.” The U. S. Supreme Court ruled vaccines “unavoidably unsafe” and established the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) in 1986 – which while making pharmaceutical companies immune from any and all liability, also makes clear that people are routinely injured by vaccines and eligible for compensation. In fact, Federal courts have awarded approximately 3.5 BILLION dollars to victims of vaccine injury!
And the very existence of the Vaccine Adverse Reporting System (VAERS) stands as a testimony to the inherently unsafe nature of vaccines. Thirty thousand (30,000) vaccine reactions have been reported, and up to 4,000 of these vaccine injuries reported each year are severe side effects that lead to hospital stays, lifelong disability, and death.
Parents vs. Government: Who Really Knows Best?
When it comes to vaccinations, who should call the shots? Some parents believe it is they who have that right and are angry with a government that is forcing toxic substances on their children, particularly since there is no actual health emergency in the US. Those who object to SB277 and other mandatory vaccination laws believe the bills are unconstitutional and a violation of their rights to life and liberty.
But it certainly doesn’t mean that these parents aren’t concerned for the health of their children.
It is quite the contrary!
The ever growing vaccine schedule, which has more than tripled in the last 20 years, has coincided with increased diagnoses among America’s youth for autism, learning disabilities and chronic illness – not to mention cancer, which has taken its place as the leading cause of death by disease in children beyond infancy.
What might be the links between vaccines and cancer?
The CDC hasn’t given us any hard evidence, but the exponential increase in childhood cancers has coincided with the explosion of vaccinations in this country. Vaccines are not tested for carcinogenic effects, but with many containing known neurotoxins like aluminum and mercury, why aren’t they?

And if carcinogens in foods can lead to cancer, why wouldn’t injecting carcinogens directly into the bloodstream?
Maybe there’s something the CDC isn’t telling us!
As concerned as these parents are about the inherent risks of vaccinations, they are equally in favor of pursuing natural means of disease prevention and establishing foundations for lifelong health – without the added burdens of toxins being injected into their children. Mostly, these parents are in favor of having the right to make these decisions for their children, and not having to comply with government mandates that would put their children at risk.
