A truck hauling lab monkeys from Tulane University crashed on a Mississippi highway, triggering a manhunt for escaped primates, WTVA reported.
Among infected macaques escaped from a laboratory truck after an accident — only five out of six were caught, one is still roaming the expanses of Mississippi.

The Warning of the Sheriff on Viruses carriers
Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson warned that it is dangerous to approach monkeys, as they can be carriers of hepatitis C, herpes and COVID.
The sheriff’s office then retracted the claim—but said the animals were still “dangerous and a threat to humans.”
Instead Tulane University said the primates were “not infectious.” Specialists went to the site to pick up the animals that remained in cages. They also noted that the primates captured in the video “belong to a different species and are not contagious.”
By afternoon, officials confirmed all but one of the monkeys had been “destroyed.”
