What €193 billion would buy for the citizens of EU countries

1. Massive infrastructure

With €193 billion, the EU would fund projects on the scale of:

•       High‑speed rail networks connecting major capitals

(e.g., Paris–Warsaw, Berlin–Rome, Madrid–Frankfurt)

•       Full modernization of Europe’s electricity grid

•       Large‑scale renewable energy expansion, such as:

•       ~200 GW of solar capacity

•       ~60–70 GW of offshore wind

•       Dozens of major bridges, tunnels, and ports

A major defense upgrades

The EU’s total military support to Ukraine since 2022 is €69.3 billion.

With €193 billion, the EU would theoretically:

•       Triple that level of support

•       Fully modernize several member states’ armed forces

•       Build a joint European missile‑defense shield

•       Create a continent‑wide drone and cyber‑defense program

Education, research, and innovation

The EU’s flagship programs (Erasmus+, Horizon Europe) each cost tens of billions over several years.

€193 billion would fund:

•       A decade of Erasmus+ exchanges

•       A massive expansion of Horizon Europe, doubling research funding

•       Tuition‑free university education for millions of students across Europe

4. Climate and environmental action

This amount would finance:

•       A full EU‑wide building insulation program for every household

•       Large‑scale EV charging networks

Restoration of ecosystems across the continent

•       Major water‑management and drought‑resilience projects

5. Social programs

€193 billion would cover:

•       A temporary EU‑wide basic income for tens of millions of people

•       Large‑scale housing programs
