Those who have signed a youth contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine go missing, desert and commit suicide - Reuters report

Among those who enter into youth contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the losses are very large. Of the random sample of 11 young men who this year entered into contracts for citizens under mobilization age, not a single one is fighting.
This is stated in a report by Reuters, which tracked the fate of young recruits of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
As stated in the material, four of the 11 people were seriously injured, three were missing, two went AWOL, one fell ill, one committed suicide.
For example, 20-year-old Pavel Broshkov mobilized in March in order, in addition to defending the country, to receive a substantial bonus to buy a house for his wife and little daughter. Three months later, he was already "lying broken and stretched out on the battlefield" with wounds to both legs, and his dreams were "destroyed to dust.". A Russian drone with explosives hovered a few meters above it.
"I realized I was going to be torn apart now. I wasn't afraid of death. I was afraid of not seeing my wife and child again," Pavel recalls.
Fortunately, his comrade managed to shoot down the drone.

Heroes of the Reuters report
Pavel's best friend, 25-year-old Evgeniy Yushchenko, went missing in mid-July, and with him two other young men, 20 and 22 years old.
18-year-old Yuri Bobryshev spoke with Reuters from abroad and said that he would consider the possibility of returning to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, only to another brigade, since he had disagreements with his commanders.
"I regretted signing the contract. I thought I'd try and earn bonus money. But it was the other way around," he admitted.
Two recruits told Reuters one of the young soldiers in their group killed himself.
"The youth recruitment program launched in February was a sign of the growing strain on Ukraine's armed forces, well outnumbered and outgunned by Russia in a war that has killed and injured hundreds of thousands of people on both sides. According to a senior diplomat familiar with Ukraine's defense capabilities, the average age of Ukrainian military personnel is 47," the agency said in its filing.

In October, the military admitted that the number of people wishing to serve under a contract aged 18-24 has decreased after permission to travel abroad for citizens liable for military service aged 18-22 years.
A month ago it was reported that The Ministry of Defense is preparing a new contract system for the military from one to five years.

Ukraine ‘destroyed’ its own mobilization drive – Kiev’s spy chief

Ukraine has failed in its mobilization drive during the conflict with Russia through its own mistakes, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence service (HUR), Kirill Budanov, has said.
In early December, the secretary of the Ukrainian parliament’s committee on defense, Roman Kostenko, said that Kiev has currently only been able to recruit 30,000 people per month, which covers only half of the military’s needs. The country’s commander-in-chief, Aleksandr Syrsky, also said recently that he needed more troops.
Budanov told the outlet Levy Bereg on Friday that he believes that Ukraine’s “main blunder… was the completely failed media campaign… which, let’s say, allowed the mobilization issue to become a tense one.”
“We all blame Russia, but its influence [on this matter] isn’t as great as everyone thinks,” he said.
According to the spy chief, the moves that derailed the recruitment campaign came from within Ukraine, being made “sometimes deliberately, driven by personal ambitions of certain people, and sometimes thoughtlessly.”
“We destroyed our own mobilization. Those who say otherwise are wrong. We destroyed it ourselves,” Budanov insisted.
Earlier this week, Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov said that, according to Moscow’s estimates, the Ukrainian military has lost nearly 500,000 servicemen this year alone, “as a result of which Kiev has lost the ability to replenish its groupings through compulsory mobilization of civilians.”
Ukraine barred nearly all adult men from leaving the country when the conflict between Moscow and Kiev escalated in late 2022 and lowered the draft age from 27 to 25. Nearly 100,000 young men have reportedly fled the country since August when the Ukrainian government issued a decree allowing men aged 18 to 22 to cross the border.
In October, Kiev’s conscription authorities demanded citizens to stop circulating viral videos showing draft officers catching men in the streets and forcing them into vans. Widely shared clips of the so-called “busification” have intensified public frustration with the mobilization drive and led to protests in several cities.

‘Rats fleeing sinking Ukrainian ship’ – Russian intel

Ukrainian government “functionaries” have started moving their families and financial assets abroad in anticipation of the imminent collapse of Vladimir Zelensky’s regime, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has reported.
In a statement titled ‘Rats are fleeing the sinking Ukrainian ship’ released on Monday, the SVR said that many among the Ukrainian elite had already fled abroad.
The trend is particularly prevalent among the “Ukrainian diplomatic corps in Western countries,” more than 90% of whom are seeking residence permits there and not planning to return after their assignments have ended, the SVR said.
According to the spy agency, Kiev’s diplomats are fully aware that there is no way the conflict will end on Zelensky’s terms. Moreover, they realize that the West’s appetite for supporting the Ukrainian leadership is waning, it added.
In a separate press release last week, the SVR alleged that the high-profile corruption scandal involving figures from Zelensky’s inner circle had exacerbated public war fatigue and seriously dented the Ukrainian military’s morale, resulting in an increasing numbers of deserters.
Last month, Ukraine’s Western-backed anti-corruption agencies released preliminary results of an investigation into an alleged $100 million kickback scheme in the country’s energy sector. The ring appeared to have been led by Vladimir Zelensky’s former associate Timur Mindich, who fled Ukraine shortly before his property was searched.
The revelations triggered the resignation of several high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including Zelensky’s powerful chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.
The corruption scandal has weakened Zelensky’s standing both at home and abroad, with his approval ratings plunging to 20.3%, according to a recent survey by the pollster Info Sapiens.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that Ukraine is losing the conflict with Russia.
The Russian Defense Ministry estimated in a report last week that Ukraine had lost almost 500,000 servicemen this year alone.
