The sugar industry paid Harvard researchers to downplay the link between sugar and heart disease and paint saturated fat as the villain.
INDUSTRY FINANCED SCIENCE IS NOT REALLY SCIENCE
The ability of lobbyists to influence affairs is not something new. Industry-financed “science” is never really science and should best be viewed with a wary eye. But the newly released historical documents show how twistedly corrupt industry-sponsored science can be.
The sugar industry disperses millions in lobbying expenses. According to Forbes, five sugar-related organizations spent a combined $8.3 million on lobbying in 2014.
Documents, recently discovered by a researcher at the University of California, suggest that 50 years of research on the role of nutrition and heart disease, may have been shaped by the sugar industry. This research affects many of today’s dietary recommendations.
SHIFTING THE BLAME TO FAT
In the 1950s when coronary heart disease was on the rise in the United States, researchers began suspecting high-sugar diet as a possible cause. A trade group called the Sugar Research Foundation (SRF), known today as the Sugar Association, did what any concerned and corrupt industry group would do. They bought their own science to play down the link between sugar and heart disease and shift the blame to fat.
According to the documents, SRF paid three Harvard scientists the equivalent of about $50,000 in today’s dollars to publish a 1967 review of research on sugar, fat and heart disease. The article was then published in the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. The review, handpicked by the sugar group, minimized the role of sugar in coronary heart disease. It concluded that saturated fat and cholesterol were the real culprits, the New York Times reports.

THE MISINFORMED PUBLIC
If this revelation has not made you furious yet, one of the scientists, or better, one of the criminals was D.Mark Heisted. He went on to become the head of nutrition at the United States Department of Agriculture. He helped to draft the federal government’s dietary guidelines.
The revelations are of great importance since review papers, especially if published in prominent journals, shape the overall scientific discussion. The research concluded that sugar does not have a unique role in heart disease. For decades, health officials encouraged Americans to reduce their fat intake. Sugar just got a rep for rotting your teeth but otherwise was considered benign. This demonization of fat led many people to consume low-fat, high-sugar foods. Americans began to replace their morning eggs with bagels, fuelling today’s obesity crisis.
CORPORATIONS MAKE IT HARD TO TRUST NUTRITION STUDIES
Even though the documents go back 50 years, the food industry continues to influence nutrition science. Government nutrition rules have always and still are based on money and politics rather than sound science. The federal dietary guidelines still warn against saturated fat and accept funding from industry groups and food companies such as Unilever.
One of the industry’s most powerful tactics is the funding of nutrition research. It carries academic authority, becomes a part of scientific literature, and generates headlines. Every major industry seeks to game research and skew the facts. That article you read about oatmeal breakfast keeping you fuller for longer? Surprise, surprise. This was funded by Quaker Oats.
Last year, an article in The New York Times revealed that Coca-Cola, the world’s largest producer of sugary beverages, paid millions of dollars in funding to researchers who sought to play down the link between sugary drinks and obesity. They planned to convince the public that physical activity can offset a bad diet despite the evidence that exercise has a minimal impact on weight compared with diet.
There was another truly startling scientific finding which claimed that children who eat candy weight less than those who don’t. It turns out, the paper was funded by a trade association representing the makers of Butterfingers, Hershey and Skittles.
PROFITS OVER OUR HEALTH
I don’t know about you but I am angry. Falsifying valuable health information is nothing but an act of evil. Not only was this act morally wrong, but contributed significantly to promoting a fraud that created an ongoing health disaster. It’s absolutely disgusting, and disappointing that many “experts” in medicine and food policy cannot be trusted. Shame on the people who manufacture research to support their agenda.

Cancer, Candida, and Sugar

You may have read my previous blogs about cancer and sugar. Here’s one more: Some scientists think there is a connection between cancer and a yeast or fungal overgrowth known as Candida albicans -- and sugar affinity is likely the common denominator between them! For years, researchers have known that bacterial and viral infections caused several types of cancer, so it may not be so farfetched to stretch causation to fungal overgrowth. And from there, we have another powerful argument linking sugar and cancer.
Cancer and Infections
Research has long shown that infections by microorganisms can contribute to or even cause cancer. In 1994, the International Agency for Research on Cancer classified the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) as a carcinogen, and since then it has been increasingly accepted that colonization of the stomach with H. pylori is an important cause of gastric cancer.In 2003, Danish researchers linked the Epstein-Barr virus the cause of mononucleosis, to a malignant lymphoma known as Hodgkin's disease.
Human papilloma virus (HPV) is known to cause cervical cancer and some oral cancers. In 2012, scientists at the University of Liverpool identified a type of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria that is linked to the development of colon cancer . And Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a proven cause of about 80% of liver cancer (primary hepatic carcinoma).

According to an article published in The Lancet, of the 12.7 million new cancer cases that occurred worldwide in 2008, about 16% (around 2 million) were attributable to infections. Helicobacter pylori , hepatitis B and C viruses, and human papilloma viruses were responsible for 1.9 million cases, mainly gastric, liver, and cervical cancers. 9
The fungal infection connection also seems to have some history. As long ago as 1913, Nobel Laureate Dr. Johannes Fibiger of Denmark proved the connection between cancer and fungal growths when he fed parasitic larvae-carrying cockroaches to healthy rats. The rats subsequently developed "cancer swellings." In a comprehensive study published in 1950 by Lankenau Hospital Research Institute and the Institute for Cancer Research (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), researchers found fungi present in virtually all cancerous tumors they examined. Fungi were readily isolated from all types of transplanted, induced, and spontaneous mouse and human tumors and from mouse leukemias. Some doctors actually implicate fungi as a cause of leukemia. In 1999, Meinolf Karthaus, MD, reported on three different children with leukemia who suddenly went into remission upon receiving a triple antifungal drug cocktail.
Cancer and Candida
Over the years, many researchers have documented the co-existence of cancer and a specific fungal overgrowth known as Candidiasis ( Candida albicans ) with correlations of 79% to 97%. At least 10 other researchers suggested a causal link between Candida and cancers of the larynx, lung, esophagus, tongue, intestine, pancreas, and lymph system.
Italian oncologist Dr. Tullio Simoncini also believes in a strong connection between cancer and Candida . He is the author of Cancer Is a Fungus, a book in which he details both his theory and different protocols for different tumor types. Dr. Simoncini points out that at the most basic level cancer and yeast fungus have very similar (if not identical) characteristics.
- Both cancer and Candida feed on sugar.
- Both grow and reproduce only in anaerobic (low oxygen) environments.
- Both need an acidic environment to survive.
- When you probe cancer cells within the human body, they appear white in color and uneven in texture just like yeast.
Simoncini believes categorically that Candida causes fungal infections that lead to cancerous tumors in humans. In fact, he stated that Candida is found in about 97% to 98% of cases. According to Simoncini, although Candida in cancer patients is usually interpreted as a consequence of cancer and its treatment, it is incorrect to think that the cancer comes first, and then the Candida. In fact, the Candida fungus is present first, penetrates the organism, and causes the tumor.
Based on his theory that the formation and spread of cancerous tumors is simply the result of a fungus, Dr. Simoncini has pioneered a cancer therapy using the strongest antifungal substance, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), as a means to treat cancer. His therapy is harmless and appears to be very effective. His book appendix includes 18 impressive clinical case regressions, including lung cancer, liver cancer with lung metastasis, Ewing’s sarcoma, ”terminal” cervical cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, advanced melanoma with brain metastasis, and breast cancer that had spread to lung, liver and bone.
Candida and Sugar
The Hgt4 protein of Candida albicans is a high-affinity glucose sensor that contributes to the virulence of C. albicans . Said simply, Candida organisms need sugars like glucose, fructose and sucrose to provide them with energy to grow and to build their cell walls, which are comprised 80% of carbohydrates. However, those sugars serve one extra purpose. They enable the Candida yeast cells to switch to their more virulent, fungal form. This form of Candida is faster-growing and develops long branches that can cause Leaky Gut Syndrome. (If you have noticed persistent Candida symptoms, chances are the Candida in your gut has switched to its fungal form.)
If yeast is the infection at the heart of most cancer cells and sugar helps feed yeast, then the rise of cancer rates over the last 80 years could be due to the modern carbohydrate-rich diet. Carbohydrates in the form of processed white sugar, refined flour, high-fructose corn syrup and other foods with high-glycemic counts feed the yeast fungus so that it grows rapidly and disrupts the normal balance of good and bad flora, lowering immune response. This terrible combination of yeast overgrowth, reduced immune response, and dramatic increases in refined sugar consumption may be the triple “whammy” that has spurred the cancer epidemic. In addition, the widespread use of antibiotics, particularly in the UK and US, kills all bacteria – including the good bacteria (probiotics) needed to fight disease, fungus and cancer.
So are all sugar-holics doomed to get cancer? Not necessarily. Just as eating lots of sugars can promote a Candida overgrowth, restricting sugars can slow down or reverse Candida. A 2011 study found that carbohydrates were “indispensable” both for cellular growth and for the transition into fungal form. Depriving the Candida of its food source can slow its growth and prevent that transition from happening.

Aake Kalliala toipui sairaudestaan haistattamalla pitkät ravintosuosituksille!

Suomen virallinen ravintosuositus sanoo, että II-tyypin diabeetikon tulee syödä runsaasti hiilihydraattia, kuten leipää ja perunaa. Seiskan suorittama ”ihmiskoe” todistaa kuitenkin päinvastaista.
Koekaniinimme, näyttelijä Aake Kalliala sanoo oman kokemuksensa perusteella, että hiilihydraatti on selvästi haitallista kakkostyypin diabeteksesta kärsivälle. Aake on toipunut merkittävästi sairaudestaan syömällä virallisten suositusten vastaisesti.
HIILARIT MINIMIIN
Kaikki alkoi viime toukokuussa, kun Seiskan erikoistoimittaja Panu Hörkkö vei Aaken tapaamaan lääkäri Antti Heikkilää Eiran sairaalaan. He löivät kättä päälle siitä, että Aake ryhtyy noudattamaan Heikkilän opein toteutettua vähähiilihydraattista eli vhh-ruokavaliota.
Aake luopui tärkkelyksestä, kuten viljoista ja perunasta. Teollisesti prosessoitu margariini ja rypsiöljy saivat lähteä, samoin sokeri, einekset ja oluet. Aake ryhtyi käyttämään vain hyviä rasvoja, kuten voita ja oliiviöljyä. Liha, kala, kananmunat ja vähähiilihydraattiset kasvikset täyttivät Aaken vatsan.
Aake luopui tärkkelyksestä, kuten viljoista ja perunasta. Teollisesti prosessoitu margariini ja rypsiöljy saivat lähteä, samoin sokeri, einekset ja oluet. Aake ryhtyi käyttämään vain hyviä rasvoja, kuten voita ja oliiviöljyä. Liha, kala, kananmunat ja vähähiilihydraattiset kasvikset täyttivät Aaken vatsan.
Mies sai käytännössä syödä niin paljon kuin halusi, kunhan hiilihydraattimäärä jäi vuorokaudessa alle 50 gramman.
Aake painaa nyt 95 kiloa ja on huippukunnossa. Miehen lenkkikaveri on Hönö-niminen labradoodle.
LÄÄKITYS LÄHES PURETTU
Tapasimme Aaken kanssa uudestaan viime viikon keskiviikkona (26.8.) Kameran eteen asteli jo 15 kiloa kevyempi mies.
– Helvetin kiva, että kaikki ylimääräinen on lähtenyt vyötäröltä. 15 kiloahan on käytännössä kaksi sangollista p**kaa, Aake tuumasi.
Aake on myös purkanut jo miltei koko lääkityksensä.
– Verenpainelääkityksen lopetin melkein heti, kun aloitin tämän dieetin. Nyt on ihan huippulukemat, kun ennen ne heiluivat ihan miten sattui. Diabeteslääkkeistä lopetin jo yhden. Toista vielä vetelen, mutta myös siitä olisi tarkoitus luopua pian.
Aake (vas.) painoi toukokuussa vielä 110 kiloa. Heinäkuussa otetussa kuvassa (oik.) mies oli jo hoikistunut yli 10 kiloa.
”LÄÄKEMAFIA HYÖTYY”
Aaken mukaan vhh-ruokavalio on parantanut hänen elämänlaatuaan merkittävästi. Hän ei ymmärrä, miksi viralliset ravintosuositukset yhä suosittelevat diabeetikoille hiilihydraatteja.
–Se on ihan syvältä, hiilarit ovat hanurista! Lääkärikunnan tulisi ryhdistäytyä ja sanoa diabeetikoille, että älkää syökö tärkkelystä. On tyhmää syödä ihan mitä sattuu ja sitten mättää pilleriä suuhun. Miettikää ajoissa mitä suuhunne laitatte. Välttäkää prosessoituja p**koja!
Aake uskoo, että lääkärit tietävät asian, mutta että kaiken takana ovat lääketehtaat.
– Kyllä tänä päivänä lääketiede tietää, mikä on ihmiselle parasta. Tässä tullaan taas siihen tosiasiaan, että lääkemafia on olemassa. Sillä sitten rahastetaan meitä raukkoja.
”JAUHO ON ROSKAA”
Suomessa II-tyypin diabetesta sairastaa arviolta noin 500 000 ihmistä, joista vain puolet tietää sairaudestaan. Viralliset ravintosuositukset saattavat siis aiheuttaa hallaa merkittävälle ihmisryhmälle.
– Nykymeno tulee lisäksi vähän perkeleen kalliiksi yhteiskunnalle. Mieti, jos kaikki sairastuneet luopuisivat turhista hiilihydraateista – saataisiin pikkasen lääkesäästöjä!
Aaken suunnitelmissa on seuraavaksi liikunnan lisääminen. Suosikkinäyttelijä aikoo pitää kiinni parantuneesta elämänlaadustaan.
– Se on ainakin varmaa, etten enää ikinä palaa vanhaan eli leivän syömiseen ja jauhojen käyttöön. Jauho ei ole ihmiselle tarkoitettua ruokaa – se on roskaa, ja sillä siisti!
HEIKKILÄ SEISKALLE: "SURKUHUPAINEN FARSSI!"
Lääkäri Antti Heikkilä on uinut jo vuosia vastavirtaan virallisten ravintosuositusten kanssa.
– Kakkostyypin diabetes on elintasosairaus, josta kaikki toipuvat oikean ruokavalion avulla. Virallinen puoli kuitenkin ajattelee, että riittää, kun pitää lääkkeillä verensokerin jotenkin aisoissa. Näin vain lääkkeet ovat ratkaisu. Tämä on klassinen esimerkki medikalisaatiosta, Heikkilä sanoo.
Myös Heikkilän mukaan lääketehtailla on sormensa pelissä.
– Vain noin seitsemän prosenttia kaikista diabetekseen liittyvistä tutkimuksista on vapaata. Muu on lääketeollisuuden sponsoroimaa ja manipuloimaa. Tällä massiivisella väärällä tietovirralla luodaan illuusio, että kyse on tieteestä, Heikkilä sanoo.
– Meitähän on myös huijattu 30 vuotta, että rasva on vaarallista. Nyt jenkitkin myöntävät, että kaikki se on ollut väärin, ja heidän virallinen suosituksensa on poistanut kaikki väitteet rasvojen vaarallisuudesta. Se, ettei Suomessa ole näin, johtunee siitä, että tiettyjen henkilöiden kasvot eivät kestä moista muutosta. Ellei asia olisi niin vakava, tämä olisi surkuhupaisa farssi!
